Winter

OCTOBER / MARCH

Blazing New Trails
in the cotton desert.

G. Rodari

What is there to do in Sauze in the winter?

There’s no shortage of activities designed to let you enjoy the magic of the snow-covered Alps here: from classic skiing and snowboarding to ice skating and dog-sledding excursions…

And after all that physical activity, you can’t miss out on a nice little dinner in the cozy warmth of a mountain cabin!

SKI SLOPES

MILKY WAY

The “Via Lattea” is an Italian-French ski area comprising seven resorts in Piedmont, located in the Upper Susa Valley (Oulx, Cesana, Claviere, San Sicario, Sauze d’Oulx, and Sestriere) and the Val Chisone (Pragelato), as well as the French resort of Monginevro.

The ski area, the largest in northwestern Italy, stretches from an elevation of 1,350 meters above sea level in Cesana to 2,823 meters on Monte Motta and features 72 ski lifts and 211 runs (for a total length of 400 km), some of which hosted the alpine skiing events of the XX Winter Olympic Games in Turin in 2006.

The resort is accessible by train from the Oulx-Cesana-Claviere-Sestriere train station, located on the Rome-Paris international line, and by car via the A32 highway, taking the Circonvallazione di Oulx exit.

SKATING RINKS

SESTRIERE

At Piazzale Kandahar, near the ticket offices and the slopes’ starting points, you can enjoy open-skating, as well as individual and group lessons—from beginner to advanced levels.

Theme nights are also held periodically, featuring curling, stock sport, broomball, and lite hockey, as well as events with Olympic athletes.

SNOW EXCURSIONS

Sauze di Cesana

For those who want to make the most of the scenery and silence of the Piedmontese mountains—even in winter—there are numerous excursions and trails that can be explored on foot, on touring skis, or on snowshoes.

SLED DOG TRAILS

SESTRIERE

The passion that drives these magnificent, purebred Siberian Huskies to run in front of the sled is truly thrilling.

The real stars of The Husky Experience are none other than these wonderful four-legged athletes, who accompany young and old alike on adventurous excursions through the snow-covered landscape of the Piedmontese Alps.

OFF-PIST

PRAGELATO AND SESTRIERE

Sestiere is literally surrounded by thousands of square kilometers of fantastic snow-covered slopes and forests of pine and larch trees.

The more adventurous can explore these natural wonders on snowmobiles or contact the French company Pure Ski Company, which specializes in luxury heliskiing.

DINNERS AT THE MOUNTAIN HUT

SESTRIERE

A dinner at the mountain huts in Sestriere—the famous “Via Lattea” huts—is the perfect way to enjoy unforgettable moments with family, friends, or your partner!

A snowmobile ride of about 15 minutes from Sestriere.
